breathe

designing for a solarpunk future

breathe is shown in different interactive stages; subtle, flowy movement, ripple reaction to a baby kick, spreading out- reaction to pressure, and increasing vibrational movement in response to sound
breathe is shown being worn by a pregnant mother, her hand is on her belly, touching breathe - where there is skin contact, breathe vibrates and purrs.

Breathe supports deep, emotional connection throughout pregnancy and beyond; between the baby, mother, and loved ones.

Made from living materials that respond to external stimuli like touch and sound; during pregnancy, Breathe’s material can store your voice and speak like you, dispersing your sound. Reacting to your touch, translating pressure onto the body, remembering your touch, influenced by you.

After birth, it acts as a transitional object, providing comfort and a continuous sense of familiarity for the baby.

Breathe learns and grows with its surroundings and with you.

a future with living materials

In Breathe’s Solar Punk future, materials are not isolated elements but part of an interconnected, living system.

Responsive biomaterials, such as hydrogels and shape-memory polymers, could merge with conductive biointerfaces to create a dynamic, adaptive form of communication;

a fusion of technologies that evolve alongside the user, reinforcing the organic relationship between human touch, emotional connection, and living matter.

This integration reflects a future where materials are not just passive tools but active participants in communication and care.

redefining ‘normal’ in terms of traditional construction

What if we allowed nature to support us?

“Man has to realise, that he is an integral part of nature,

that he is just as much a natural form as a seagull or wave, or a mountain.

And if he doesn’t recognise that, he uses his technical powers to destroy his environment,

to foul his own nest.”
